Veterans At Work: Unlocking the Potential of the Veteran and Military Spouse

Program Description

This session provides an overview of the challenges and opportunities in sourcing, recruiting and retaining veterans and military spouses.  We will discuss trends in the workplace along with providing best practices in the employment lifecycle.


Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the employment barriers, challenges, AND assets of the military community as well as the different employment needs of veterans and military spouses.
  •  Become familiar with the current employment trends related to the military community including unemployment rates for veterans and military spouses.
  • Learn to articulate the employment business case for hiring from the military community.
  • Learn best practices across the employee lifecycle, applying HR strategies to military-connected employees.

Speaker

                       Leanne E. King                    

Leanne E. King is a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) and has been in the field of HR for more than 30 years.  She began her career in the United States Air Force working as an Instrument Technician and transitioned to a Manpower Analyst authoring thousands of job descriptions and completing cost comparison and efficiency studies.  Leanne separated from the Air Force in 1995 and began a successful career in the private sector holding various Senior Human Resource Management and Director level positions.  Leanne opened her own HR consulting firm 2007, SeeKing HR, offering a full suite of human resource services.  She holds a BS in Management/Human Resources, a MA in Human Resource Development and an MBA.  She completed the United Way’s Masters Leadership Program in 2010, Leadership Texas in 2013 and Leadership San Antonio in 2016.  She is a certified Mediator for the State of Texas and volunteers time with the Bexar County Dispute Resolution Center.  She is a Past President of the St. Philip’s College Business Advisory Council and currently sits on the Advisory Board for SAMMinistries.
